NP Summit 4.0 Digitally Re-mastered

Digitally Re-mastered.

I was doing some archiving this past weekend and came across some images shot last year at the November Project 4.0 Summit in Blue Mountain Ontario 2016. That was a fun weekend of non-stop activity including over 3,000 images shot, edited and posted almost in real time. With so much going on like running 10km up a mountain, making dozens of new friends, drinking "one or two beers" at a few parties and social gatherings - I never really had time to" bite into" any of the images.

The summits early Friday morning pop-up workout was a tough climb up a ski hill. Over 400 tribies participated in a fun and challenging session of diverse exercises, sprinting and of course high five and hugs. I wanted to "shoot everything" in an attempt to capture all the magic and positive vibes. On the practical side shooting high speed chaotic and unpredictable action directly into the strong rays of the morning light was a technical challenge. Plus my style of shooting – read "Ninja Paparazzi", requires me to move my ass so I can "blend" into the action and hopefully become a part of it. I do this to get into a "flow-state" of shooting.

To deal with the technical shooting challenges, I used an old film trick by underexposing (reverse pushing) the shots (ISO 1200 vs IS0 3200) using a decent depth of field f8 and pretty fast shutter 1/800sec in the dim light. Knowng that I could "open-up" the images in Lightroom and take advantage of the ISO invariance and dynamic range of my camera's sensor later on – was a bit risky.

This past weekend that risk paid off after 20 hours of work to recover what we all experienced on that special morning last year. Enjoy.
